What you can do with your life while dreaming
Research has revealed that we can reduce anxiety, solve problems and even be more creative – all while we sleep.
It may sound too good to be true but the key, says sleep expert Clare Johnson, is learning the mysterious art of lucid dreaming.
A lucid dream is any experience in which you become aware that you’re dreaming during the REM stage of your sleep cycle.Prisoners will get blow-up dolls
You are still asleep but conscious enough to be aware that what is happening isn’t real.
“Have you ever been dreaming and suddenly realised what you’re experiencing isn’t real but not woken up?” says Dr Johnson, an expert in lucid dreams.
“Perhaps you changed what was happening in the dream or interacted with the characters in it.”This may be the greatest 'dad joke' of all time
Neuroscientists at the University of Bern in Switzerland believe that because the brain is in a less rational state than when we are awake, lucid dreaming is the perfect environment for creative thinking.
“Dreams help you connect to your unconscious mind,” adds Dr Johnson.
“This can show us how we are really feeling and what we need to change in our lives. We can work out ideas and overcome fears and anxieties.”The real price of divorce
